The Swinging Bridge at Minnesota’s Jay Cooke State Park 10.7.22 HISTORY The original Swinging Bridge was built in 1924 by the Forest Service with peeled log supports and a boardwalk suspended over the rocks. The early bridges frequently flooded. Based on newspaper articles, river flow data and historic photos showing changing details, the bridge may have flooded nearly every year between 1924 - 1940. In May, 1950 the second largest St. Louis River flood on current record destroyed the boardwalk
