Canada’s 2021 economic outlook is similar to that of other developed countries: After the largest economic contraction since 1945 (a dip we estimate at 5.5% of GDP), the economy should grow sufficiently to largely offset the losses of 2020.

Oct 27, 2021 · The pace of the economic recovery slowed during the first half of 2021 as supply chain disruptions and third wave restrictions weighed on activity. Consumer prices rose steadily during the first half, as gasoline, shelter, and durables put upward pressure on headline inflation.
• Despite the strong economic growth earlier in the year, the Canadian economy in October was $83.9 billion below its February level in inflation-adjusted terms. • To put the size of the current economic decline in context, the total peak-to-trough GDP decline in the 2008-09 recession was $76.5 billion, equivalent to a 4.7 percent drop.
