The Lockheed L-1649 Starliner is the last model of the Lockheed Constellation line of airliners. Powered by four Wright R-3350 Turbo-compound engines, it was built at Lockheed's Burbank, California plant from 1956 to 1958.

The Jetstreams introduced a luxurious TWA developed "Siesta seat", which reclined almost flat and cost $2,500 per seat. TWA had this seat exclusively and it was at the time easily the most comfortable seat ever designed. TWA also broke up the L-1649 cabin into separate compartments for added luxury.

Entered service with Trans World Airlines (TWA) in 1957. Converted to a freighter in 1960 and operated in Alaska from 1962 to 1972. Acquired by Maurice Roundy in 1983, flown to Auburn / Lewiston and parked outside his house together with stablemate N8083H.

Jan 6, 2010 · re-arrangement of the interior (which is again "styled by Henry Dreyfuss") and heating of the lower freight holds to above 32 deg F at an outside air temperature of —20 deg F. Lockheed has now worked out the performance of the 1649A as accurately as they can at this stage, and they have compared it with the estimated figures for the DC-7C.

The central elements of the 512-room hotel are the TWA Flight Center, built in 1962 and used as a terminal until 2001, and the renovated "Jetstream", as the L-1649 was called at TWA, with a redesigned interior and retro-style murals.
