Father Smith speaks Spanish, Italian, French and some German. He enjoys reading, kickboxing, and music. He is a member of the Church Music Association of America and contributes regularly to the Chant Café blog.

Feb 23, 2022 · Fr. Christopher, one of seven children of the late Gene and Joan Smith, seems fated to have overseen the development of Christ Cathedral. His grandparents lived next door to the drive-in theater where Rev. Schuller began preaching.

Fr. Smith has spent his entire priestly ministry in the Diocese of Orange. He is a member of the first class of seminarians who were ordained priests for the new Diocese of Orange on June 3, 1978. On June 1, 2018 he observed his 40th anniversary as a priest by celebrating a special Mass at Christ Cathedral Parish.

Rev. Fr. Chris is a Doctor of Pharmacy who provides consultation regarding all medications and vaccines, especially regarding issues related to medical ethics.

Soon after I was named Rector of Christ Cathedral, I had the rare and special opportunity to meet the Rev. Robert H. Schuller and to hear him declare his gratitude that, thanks to the Catholic Church’s purchase of the Crystal Cathedral, it will remain “a place for Christ Forever.”

Fr. Christopher Smith has served as a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange since 1978. He holds a Masters in Divinity from St. John’s Seminary and a Masters in Religious Education from Fordham University.
