Dec 29, 2024 · The Switch Pro controller, for example, feels great in the hand, has big, perfectly-pushy buttons, and a large, Nintendo 4-way D-Pad. But going through half a dozen limited edition variants this gen? Every single one has bad directionals and missed inputs. It's agitating as heck. BLUNTLY? I don't think the Xbox has *ever* had a good official D-Pad.

Jan 4, 2021 · The d-pad is great the controller in general is perfection. Decades of sticking to the same general design and improving. I think the next thing coming is WiFi though that may not make it to all of the controllers, probably sold separately.

Mar 14, 2023 · The 360 D-pad is mushy and vague in stock form but if you put a plastic shim between the top plastic and the rubber membrane it becomes clicky and responsive. I don't mind a modified 360 controller but stock ones are painful to use. I like the One D-Pad and recently bought a Design Lab Series controller to try. It looks weird but it feels good.

Dec 25, 2020 · Beat it maybe 4 times on PC and the rest on Switch. Always used the analog stick regardless of the controller I had. And if I'm being honest, I prefer the keyboard over the D-pad in most instances as well. In college, I used to binge Mega Man X during holidays on my Macbook and felt a higher degree of control than with a regular D-pad.

Aug 21, 2021 · Also, it's not like a d-pad is the be-all and end-all for "sidescrollers", a lot of arcade games use a ball-top/bat-top joystick for example. (I'm talking more about the ergonomics, I do know they were almost always gated to 8 directions, unlike modern analog sticks)

May 27, 2018 · I used to not use them, but the D-Pad is too good for precision platforming. Once I made the shift to D-Pad games like Meat Boy and Celeste became way easier. I still have a bad habit of using the stick first whenever I boot up a 2D platformer, but always transition to the pad by the end of things.

Dec 25, 2020 · Started with stick, went to D-Pad but also played plenty with keyboard, which works perfectly fine honestly. Gamepad is a bit easier for comfy leaning back or so, but keyboard certainly has no disadvantage with assignable hotkeys.
So...what exactly set the Vita's d-pad apart from others?
Apr 8, 2020 · Also, the DualSense d-pad looks more like a DS4 or DS3 d-pad than the Vita d-pad. I'm not really sure why people are jumping to the Vita for comparison points - although all PlayStation d-pads do resemble each other to some extent, the Vita d-pad is the d-pad which is visually the furthest from the DualSense d-pad.
