The Capitals’ clash Tuesday night against San Jose had all the makings of a trap game — Washington was riding a four-game winning streak that featured high-octane offense every night while the upstart visitors had shaken off a poor start to play inspired hockey for more than a month.

Eklund won it with a one-timer from the right circle off a pass from Mikael Granlund with Capitals forward Tom Wilson in the penalty box for a high-sticking double minor at 17:43 of the third period.
