The forests and swamps of West Africa – particularly Liberia – are the native stomping ground of pygmy hippos, but there are believed to be only 2,500 remaining in the wild today, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (ICUN) .

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's Edinburgh Zoo announced their own tiny pygmy hippo, named Haggis, was born Oct. 30. The newborn, female calf is "doing well," according to zoo staff.

Edinburgh Zoo playfully started (and then quickly ended) a rivalry with Moo Deng, Thailand’s viral sensation. Haggis is a Scottish pudding prepared by cooking sheep organs inside the animal’s stomach, in which it is also served. It’s known as an acquired taste.
