But this is not the first time a zoo in China has dyed dogs to look like another animal. Taizhou Zoo dyed two Chow Chow dogs black and white to make them look like panda bears in May 2024.
Dogs dolled-up to look like other species has become quite an issue in China. Taizhou Zoo has previously been caught parading painted puppies as pandas in order to pull in crowds.
The dogs, which appear to be painted or dyed with an orange and black stripes, sparked fury online with images also shared on Douyin, which is what TikTok is called in China, on January 24.
