Legendary college football coach Nick Saban said that NIL has hurt the SEC while giving an advantage to schools up North during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."
Saban had two stints as a coach at Michigan State. He was the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 1983 to 87. He came back as the Spartans’ head coach from 1995 to 99. As the head coach, Saban went 34-24-1 with a 0-3 record in bowl games before heading to LSU in 2000.
The Longhorns loss in 2023 ended a 21-game home win streak that started with a 2019 win against Western Carolina. Alabama also had a 20-game home winning streak from Sept. 6, 2008 after a triumph against Tulane to Nov. 26, 2010 after a loss to Auburn.
The former Alabama coach revealed Saturday what he said was the most humiliating defeat in his career. The year was 2007 and Alabama - with first-year coach Saban at the helm - had just lost a stunning 21-14 upset to Louisiana-Monroe, a 24 1/2-point underdog from the Sun Belt Conference.
Coaching changes have activated more than $90 million in buyout money across college football. That total could skyrocket higher before the end of the season.
