The ruling coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) celebrated a significant victory as they emerged victorious in all five assembly by-elections held in Assam.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won seven of the nine assembly seats for which the bypolls were held on November 20. The NDA not only improved its tally over 2022, but also snatched seats like Kundarki and Katehari from the SP, besides increasing the winning margins on some and narrowing down the defeat gap on some others.

With the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypoll trends and results favouring NDA-BJP candidates, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (November 23, 2024) said these are proof of people’s unwavering faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s leadership.

As per the current Election Commission vote counting trends, the BJP-led NDA is leading on over 200 seats and the INDIA is far behind with leads in just 63 seats.

While the Mahayuti is leading in over 200 seats, the BJP, which fielded 149 candidates, is ahead in 125. On the other hand, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is leading in only 60 seats.
