Officials with Birmingham-Southern College say the purchase agreement of their campus by Miles College has expired.

The Miles College purchase agreement for Birmingham-Southern College ended Monday, according to a news release from BSC. The deal ended at 3 p.m. after three extension requests from Miles, according to BSC. The college is valued at $65 million.

Miles College said in a statement Tuesday that there has been a “pause” in their efforts to acquire the campus of the former Birmingham-Southern College. But the liberal arts school, an HBCU, indicated that it was still open to purchasing the property a day after the trustees of of BSC announced that the purchase agreement

Birmingham-Southern College will be looking for new potential buyers after the purchase agreement between BSC and Miles College expired Monday afternoon.

Miles College asked to extend a purchase agreement for the property, but trustees of the shuttered college said they must sell the campus quickly.

The expected sale of Birmingham-Southern College to Miles College will not happen. According to a news release dated Nov. 25, the purchase agreement between the two schools expired at 3 p.m. BSC stated the owners have been working with Miles to complete the sale, even after Miles had requested a deadline extension to close on the deal.
