Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams has accepted the resignation of his deputy mayor for public safety, Philip Banks.

Banks, the deputy mayor for public safety, submitted a resignation letter to the mayor Sunday night, sources familiar with the matter said.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams would become acting mayor and set a special election if Adams leaves office before his first term expires at the end of 2025.
