While Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s imprisonment was seen as an affront to Adivasi pride, the party also won favour for its welfare schemes.

Counting of votes began at 8 am. According to EC trends, INDIA bloc is leading in 50 seats -- JMM 30, Congress 14 and allies six -- and NDA in 30 till noon

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA bloc clinched a decisive victory in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, securing 56 of the 81 seats and forming the government for a second consecutive term. The majority mark stands at 41.

The BJP had taken a lead in 21 seats, as of 2.40 pm, while its alliance partners JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas), were ahead in one seat each.

Jharkhand held assembly elections in two phases, on November 13 and 20, for all 81 seats. Both the JMM-led alliance and the BJP-led NDA are optimistic about forming the government. Exit polls have predicted a possible edge for the BJP.
