The parcel giant reported a sharp fall in profits due to weak demand for high-margin speedy delivery services and lowered its annual revenue forecast.

FedEx attributed the poor results to higher operating expenses, a reduced demand for priority services and a single fewer operating day in the quarter

FedEx stock fell 11% after disappointing Q1 earnings and lowered guidance, but the sell-off may have been an overreaction, given the modest EPS guidance reduction. FedEx remains profitable, is focused on cost savings, and now trades at an attractive price for long-term investors.

The package-delivery giant said reduced demand for priority services and higher operating costs weighed on results.

FedEx missed quarterly estimates and lowered its full-year guidance. Demand was weaker than expected for business-to-business shipping, which is its most profitable segment. The company is in the early stages of a cost-cutting campaign.
