Environment and Climate Change Canada says Calgary can expect snow to fall for an extended period, with anywhere from 15 to 25 centimetres hitting the city, with precipitation peaking on Saturday.

A snowfall warning for Calgary remained in effect early Saturday morning and looks poised to be hanging around all weekend.

After a mild, dry season throughout the fall, Calgary woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, which delayed transit and created winter driving conditions.

Calgary and other parts of southern Alberta were issued a snowfall warning early Monday morning. In a post on its website, Environment and Climate Change Canada said areas under the warning can expect to see about 10 centimetres of snowfall.

Calgary is under a snowfall warning with total amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres expected. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warning on Friday, saying the snow will begin falling throughout the day, intensify on Saturday morning and continuing through until Sunday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued snowfall warnings throughout southern and central Alberta on Friday, from a system that's a remnant of the recent bomb cyclone in B.C.

Environment Canada is forecasting heavy snow this weekend with some areas expected to receive up to 40 centimetres. Motorists are advised to be patient and take care.
