Lucknow: In a major reversal of the trend witnessed in the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Saturday won seven of the nine assembly seats that went to bypolls and restricted the Samajwadi Party (SP) to merely two seats.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won seven of the nine assembly seats for which the bypolls were held on November 20. The NDA not only improved its tally over 2022, but also snatched seats like Kundarki and Katehari from the SP, besides increasing the winning margins on some and narrowing down the defeat gap on some others.

Within months, the BJP appears to have turned things around in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh that collectively accounted for 59 of the 63 seats it dropped in the Lok Sabha elections.

Results have been announced for the by-elections across 46 Assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats across the nation. The results will impact 13 states, with key contests in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan,

The BJP and its allies emerged victorious in seven of the nine assembly seats that went to bypolls, showcasing its continued strength in Uttar Pradesh politics. The party’s robust campaign and grassroots outreach seem to have resonated with voters across key constituencies.

Among the 6 seats the BJP won are Kundarki, which had gone to either SP or BSP in the last 28 years, and Katehari that it last won in 1991.

The Bharatiya Janata Partyhas won four of nine Uttar Pradesh Assembly bypolls held this week, and is leading in two others, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reasserts control over a state at the core of the BJP's Hindi voter base.

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary attributes the party's bypoll victory to public trust in PM Modi and CM Yogi's leadership. He highlights the win in Kundarki as a rejection of caste-based politics and a mandate for the BJP's development agenda.
