President Biden said on Sunday that U.S. officials believe they can bring Mr. Tice home, but that they do not know where he is.

The family of Austin Tice, a freelance journalist held in Syria since 2012, said they have new confirmation that Tice is still alive and well but expressed deep frustration with the Biden administration for telling them in a meeting on Friday that the administration is waiting to see how the rapidly unfolding events in Syria resolve before being able to do more to try to free Tice.

President Joe Biden says the U.S. government believes missing American journalist Austin Tice, who disappeared 12 years ago near the Syrian capital, is alive and Washington is committed to bringing him home after Bashar Assad’s ouster from power.
