Black Friday is known as the busiest shopping day of the year, but the day after, to some, is known as the most important shopping day of the year.

Fifteen years ago, American Express created a day for independent businesses — the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Since it started in 2010, consumers have reported spending nearly $201 billion across the previous 14 Small Business Saturdays combined, according to American Express.

Neighborhoods, including Humboldt Park, Lincoln Square, and Ravenswood, are offering extra deals and special events in honor of the shopping day.
