Adi Roche of Chernobyl Children International is calling for Chernobyl and all Nuclear Power Plants to be declared ‘No War Zones.'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the Russian drone, which struck the shelter above Unit No 4 at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, flew at an altitude undetectable by radar. This suggests the strike was intentionally aimed at the shelter.

The Kremlin rejected that its military targets Ukrainian nuclear sites, while the European Union said the attack was “reckless” and showed Russia was “not looking for peace”

Russia said on Friday that an accusation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that a Russian drone had struck the Chornobyl nuclear power plant was a staged "provocation" by Kyiv to blackmail the West into giving it more aid.

The Kremlin on Friday dismissed as a "provocation" accusations by Ukraine that a Russian drone had damaged the containment shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant overnight. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that he did not have precise information on the alleged incident but that Russia does not attack nuclear infrastructure.

As of Friday morning, radiation levels inside and outside Chernobyl remain normal and stable according to the UN's nuclear watchdog (the IAEA). Russia has denied any claims it attacked Chernobyl, stating its military does not strike Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure and "any claims that this was the case do not correspond to reality".
