A judge has ruled the Trump administration cannot deny funding to "sanctuary" cities and counties because of policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration efforts.

The order expanded a previous one in April that barred the Trump administration from withholding federal funding to 16 cities and counties over their local laws.

Cities and states with so-called sanctuary policies generally refuse to assist with immigration raids or accede to requests for local jails to hold prisoners for deportation.
