As talks for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip resume, Palestinians in the battered enclave say they are desperate for deal to end the war between Israel and Hamas.
Israel's northern West Bank operation which began in January has been one of the biggest since the Second Intifada uprising by Palestinians more than 20 years ago, involving several brigades of troops earlier this year backed by drones, helicopters and, for the first time in decades, heavy battle tanks.
The development comes as Israel's war against Hamas approaches the two-year mark. The conflict first began on Oct. 7, 2023, when the terrorist group killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 more as hostages; more than 55,000 Palestinians have since died in Israel's retaliation efforts, according to Reuters.
Since October 2023, Israel's assault on Gaza has resulted in the martyrdom of at least fifty-seven thousand six hundred Palestinians.
