A large wildfire in the Florida Everglades in western Broward County continued to burn and grow in size on Thursday.

Smoke from two brush fires burning in the Everglades are drifting over Fort Lauderdale and the western Broward County suburbs on Wednesday morning.

Joan Murray reports the wildfires in the Everglades are not impacting any properties.

A federal judge in Miami has ordered Florida to shut down and dismantle its controversial immigrant detention site known as “Alligator Alcatraz.” The ruling gives the state 60 days to remove all facilities and restore the area.

Several detainees have spoken with AFP about the conditions at the center, including a lack of medical care, mistreatment and the alleged violation of their legal rights.
