Amid escalating violence against Hindus and the arrest of priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, a petition has been submitted to the Bangladesh High Court seeking a ban on the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

A person following his religion peacefully in any country should be respected, said ISKCON’s Governing Body Commissioner Gauranga Das referring to the recent arrest of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Das in Bangladesh.

The unrest was triggered by the arrest of prominent Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu on Monday at Dhaka airport. He has been charged with sedition and denied bail on Tuesday.

A lawyer was killed and six others injured during protests in Dhaka and Chittagong over the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. The deceased, identified as Saiful Islam, was reportedly attacked by protesters outside the court.

ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was arrested by authorities on Monday while travelling from Dhaka to Chittagong.
