Tamil Nadu and Puducherry braced for very heavy rain with the possibility of Cyclone Fengal crossing the coasts near Chennai.

A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm, moving north-northwest and skirting Sri Lanka before crossing the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry brace for heavy rains.

Cyclone Fengal continues to affect several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur. Authorities have closed schools and colleges in these areas as a safety measure. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory and continues to provide updates through its official channels.

Most importantly IMD stated that there is a possibility of marginal intensification of the deep depression into a cyclonic storm.

Storm is predicted to cross the northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, on the morning of 30.
