Holger Rune stunned Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (6), 6-2 to win the Barcelona Open on Sunday, ending his two-year long trophy drought and the Spaniard’s nine-matching winning streak in the process.

The Dane faced his coeval and the two-time Barcelona Open champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final and earned a 7-6, 6-2 victory. Thus, he added 500 ATP points to his tally and ended his terrible streak versus the top-10 opponents.

Carlos Alcaraz's clay season was off to a fiery start as he won nine matches in a row, including the title at Monte Carlo. However, Holger Rune, Alcaraz's longtime friend and opponent, beat Alcaraz in a two-set match in the Barcelona Open final on Sunday to end the Spaniard's successful run.
