Yet his video has over 100,000 views. The big question, though, is whether what he’s doing is actually street photography. That all depends on who you ask.

“Watching New York,” a book inspired by Johnny Cirillo’s Instagram account, underlines how the street photography tradition has changed in the social media era.

Crafts is also the author of the companion photo book, The Unseen Photos of Street Gang, which features more than 150 photos by the late photographer David Attie.
