On June 16, 1675, Jesus told Sister Margaret Mary to promote a feast that honored his Sacred Heart. He also gave her 12 promises made to all who venerate and promote the devotion of the Sacred Heart.

The first feast of the Sacred Heart was celebrated privately at the monastery in 1686. Sister Margaret Mary died in 1690 and was canonized by Pope Benedict XV on May 13, 1920.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the “Apostle of the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus,” was the first to promulgate this devotion. Our Lord appeared to her on Dec. 27, 1673.
