Japanese video game maker Nintendo's chief says its Switch console sales are still going strong, while he promised that a successor is coming.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said on Wednesday that software for the company's Switch console would be playable on the successor device.

You don't have to take great pains to preserve your Switch to ensure that you can still play your favorite games on it years and years from now. Nintendo has revealed in its earnings report that the upcoming successor to the Switch will have backwards compatibility and will be able to run games made for the current console.

The company says that Nintendo Switch Online will make its way to the technically still-unannounced console, too.
