Google Maps will call it the Gulf of America after President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico

Mexican president says President Trump can call the gulf whatever he wants but that the world will still call it the Gulf of Mexico.

Google Maps has announced it will update its platform to reflect President Trump’s decision to rename two iconic geographic features — the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali. The pair will soon appear on the platform as the “Gulf of America” and “Mount McKinley,” respectively.

Trump will make good on his promise to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, as he floated in a news conference earlier this month. A preview of the order, first obtained by the New York Post, said both the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali will be renamed, with the latter reverting back to its previous name, Mount McKinley.

Google Maps will change the name of "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" once it is officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, Google said in an X post on Monday.

Google said it would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” for its Google Maps users in the United States to stay in line with President Donald Trump’s executive order making the switch.

Following President Trump’s order renaming the Gulf of Mexico, at least in the United States, Mexicans and Cubans expressed annoyance, defiance, confusion and even amusement.

The company said Monday that it will only make changes when the government updates its official listings for the body of water and the mountain.
