Louisville Democratic Party members chose Gary Clemons for the Kentucky Senate seat vacated by David Yates, who became interim Jefferson County Clerk days earlier.

Clemons is a lifelong resident of Louisville's South End, an Army veteran and the president of the United Steelworkers Local 1693 union.
