March 3 (UPI) -- A preliminary magnitude-3.9 earthquake shook Los Angeles just hours after the end of the Academy Awards. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 10:13 p.m. PST earthquake, with a depth of about 9.5 miles, was centered about 1.24 miles east-southeast of North Hollywood.

China has moved quickly to strike back against Trump's latest tariff plans. The Chinese governments on Tuesday announced retaliatory tariffs on some U.S. goods of up to 15%, starting on March 10, as well as new export controls.

Starting just past midnight, imports from Canada and Mexico are now to be taxed at 25%, with Canadian energy products getting tariffed at 10%. In addition, the 10% tariff that Trump placed on Chinese imports in February is doubling to 20%.
