A Republican lawmaker in Maine accused of choking his wife last month won re-election by a single vote after a Thursday recount.

The chair of a Maine school board outlined Tuesday how her district can resist deportation efforts, referencing the outcome of the presidential election.

In November 1819, the former president said in a letter that he found the proposed state constitution was marked with wisdom at every point with one exception.

According to the recount results, Lanigan received 2,478 votes while Kidder received 2,477 votes. Election officials said 424 ballots were still deemed to be blank following the recount.

Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Jared Golden has emerged victorious after the state conducted its ranked choice runoff for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

Maine is one of a handful of states that use Ranked Choice Voting, where voters rank in order of preference who they would like to see win. In this case, when the bottom candidates were eliminated, their votes were reallocated to their second and third choices until a remaining candidate received over 50 percent.
