There is an increasing likelihood of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 24 to 48 hours. The City of New Smyrna Beach said sandbags will be available 24 hours a day next to the Sports Complex football stadium at 2335 Sunset Drive.

A new tropical threat has emerged in the Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Depression Fourteen has formed and is expected to become a hurricane by Monday. It could reach major hurricane status before making landfall on the west coast of Florida as early as Wednesday morning.

Tropical Depression Fourteen has formed in the southwest part of the Gulf of Mexico. The next name on the Atlantic Hurricane list is Milton. Tropical storm strength is expected by Sunday morning. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting this storm to be a hurricane by Monday morning.
