Saira Banu, who recently announced her separation from her husband-music composer AR Rahman, has defended him in a voice note. She revealed that she has been "physically unwell for the last couple of months" and so she "wanted to take a break from AR.

In a voice note, Saira Banu dispelled rumours about AR Rahman, and requested the media to stop tarnishing his name, and give them their space.

Vandana Shah, a well-known divorce lawyer handling AR Rahman and Saira Banu's case, noted that decisions like this are never easy, especially after being married for 29 years, though she didn’t go into specific details.

A day after Rahman issued a stark warning against the people posting defamatory content against them, Banu released a statement addressing the false rumours circulating online and tarnishing Rahman and her family's image.
