Travel should be avoided in the Colorado high country for a roughly 36-hour window beginning Tuesday morning and lasting until Wednesday afternoon.

The storm could close roads and create major travel disruptions that could last until Thanksgiving Day, said Maggie Ideker with the National Weather Service’s Boulder office. The rate of snowfall is expected to increase tonight and fall as fast as 2 inches per hour, she said.

Snow has fallen upwards of 20 inches in the mountains of Colorado. Snow is forecasted to wrap up Wednesday night as many travel for Thanksgiving.
