Poland's third-largest city Wroclaw was bracing for peaking flood waters on Thursday, with early indications its defences were holding firm, after the worst floods in at least two decades ravaged central Europe this week.

Although the scale of humanitarian losses cannot be properly counted, we think available data suggests the economic impact of the flood will be relatively benign, c.0.3% of GDP. We also see a limited impact on both inflation and Poland’s fiscal stance, while the impact on GDP should be higger than the scale of damages would suggest
