Nick Saban ’s name is synonymous with college football excellence. Over a storied career spanning more than two decades as a head coach, he built dynasties at Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama, capturing seven national championships and compiling one of the highest winning percentages in the sport’s history.

The Longhorns loss in 2023 ended a 21-game home win streak that started with a 2019 win against Western Carolina. Alabama also had a 20-game home winning streak from Sept. 6, 2008 after a triumph against Tulane to Nov. 26, 2010 after a loss to Auburn.

Saban had two stints as a coach at Michigan State. He was the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 1983 to 87. He came back as the Spartans’ head coach from 1995 to 99. As the head coach, Saban went 34-24-1 with a 0-3 record in bowl games before heading to LSU in 2000.

And of the 49 outgoing transfers who left prior to Belichick's first game, several are key players elsewhere including defensive end Beau Atkinson ( Ohio State ), defensive tackle Travis Shaw ( Texas) and linebacker Amare Campbell ( Penn State ).

Coaching changes have activated more than $90 million in buyout money across college football. That total could skyrocket higher before the end of the season.
