Kalidas Kolambkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured the Wadala assembly seat in a first win for the party.

The Mumbai region, which comprises 36 assembly constituencies, is a key battleground in Maharashtra. Early trends show a close contest between Mahayuti and MVA in Maharashtra, including Mumbai. The area has traditionally been dominated by the Shiv Sena,

Shiv Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - hit the majority mark of 145 after a flying start and is leading on over 220 seats in early trends. The MVA, meanwhile, is struggling to narrow down the gap and leading on around 55 seats.

Counting of votes for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 began at 8 am, with the postal ballots being opened first. The BJP-NCP-Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - edged ahead in very early trends and was leading on around seven seats within minutes of counting.
