Brandeis University in Waltham said on Tuesday that starting next fall it would waive tuition for students with families making less than $75,000 a year. Families earning less than $200,000 a year will get grants and scholarships to cover half of tuition, which is over $67,000 a year.

MIT, one of the top universities in the world, is offering free tuition to undergraduate students who are accepted and meet family income requirements.

MIT plans to waive tuition for students with annual family income below $200K. Brandeis will do the same for families earning less than $75K.

For students whose families earn less than $100,000 per year, the school will also cover other costs, including housing, dining, fees and an allowance for books and personal expenses.

The change reflects a broadening of MIT’s existing tuition-free program that currently has an annual income ceiling of $140,000.

MIT will offer tuition-free education starting in 2025 to undergraduates from families earning below $200,000, further enhancing affordability and access for talented students across the US.
