Indian artillery shells diverted to Ukraine by European customers despite protests from Moscow, raising geopolitical implications for India.

Italian defence contractor Meccanica per l'Elettronica e Servomeccanismi (MES) was reportedly among the entities diverting made-in-India arms to Ukraine. MES, which is Yantra's biggest foreign client, buys empty shells from India and fills them with explosives, said a former Yantra official quoted by Reuters.

Artillery shells sold by Indian arms makers have been diverted by European customers to Ukraine and New Delhi has not intervened to stop the trade despite protests from Moscow, according to eleven Indian and European government and defence industry officials,

Ukraine said it destroyed a large weapons stockpile in Russia overnight using long-range drones to stage the attack as Kyiv awaits US permission to use western-made missiles in such operations.
