A leader at Southlake-based Gateway Church on Saturday provided the first update to its congregation since founding pastor Robert Morris was indicted on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child in Oklahoma.

A former pastor of a Texas megachurch has been indicted in Oklahoma on child sexual abuse charges from an incident that happened in the 1980s.

Robert Morris, the former senior pastor of the Dallas-based Gateway Church, abused a girl over several years in the 1980s, the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office said.

Robert Morris resigned from Gateway Church last year following allegations that he sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl approximately four decades ago.

Less than a year after resigning over allegations dating back to the 1980s, the former megachurch pastor faces a criminal case in Oklahoma.

The indictment, released Wednesday by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office, charges Robert Morris with five counts of indecent behavior with a child stemming from his alleged abuse of Cindy Clemishire in the 1980s.
