By Ian Ransom (Reuters) -Rain cut short Australia's improbable push for victory in the third test in Brisbane on Wednesday as India bid farewell to one of the game's great spin bowlers when Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement.

India’s Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket effective immediately. The veteran offspinner revealed the news alongside Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the post-game press conference after the third Test at the Gabba ended in a draw on Tuesday afternoon.
