The large earthquake off of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered a tsunami warning for part of the Aleutians, and an advisory for other parts of the state.

A major magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck early Wednesday in far eastern Russia. Tsunami alerts have been issued in parts of Alaska, Hawaii, Japan and throughout the Pacific. A tsunami has been measured in the northern Pacific and the United States Geological Survey is warning that tsunami waves are possible as far away as Antarctica.

An earthquake of magnitude 8.8 - one of the world's strongest-struck Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula early on Wednesday, generating a tsunami of up to 4 metres (13 feet).
