Mixed response to five airlines being fined EUR179 million
Spain has fined five budget airlines a total of EUR179 million because they charge passengers for hand luggage and seat reservations, but the carriers may appeal - and Ireland's Ryanair has called the fines ‘illegal and baseless’. Ryanair also said banning the practices would “destroy” the budget sector's ability to offer cheap tickets.

Spain fines low-cost airlines €179M over cabin baggage and seat charges
Spain Friday fined low-cost airlines Ryanair, Vueling, easyJet, Norwegian and Volotea €179 million for abusive practices including “extra charges for hand baggage or for reserving adjacent seats to accompany dependent people,” the ministry of consumer affairs announced.
