Nintendo is doing something the company has never done before: Next month, it will remove a retro game from its the Nintendo Switch Online’s classic catalog.

Super Formation Soccer is being pulled from the service on March 28th, a Japanese Nintendo support account announced. The game, which seems to be owned by Spike Chunsoft and goes by Super Soccer in the US and Europe,

The official game page for Super Soccer on the Switch Online Super Nintendo service notes how this title will be removed from this digital game library on 27th March 2025 ( or 28th March, depending on your location ). The title is listed as a Spike Chunsoft-licensed release.

In a seemingly monumental move for consumers, Nintendo has announced the end of service for one of its Switch Online games – and understandably, users are worried about what that means for the future of digital gaming.

"The title "Super Formation Soccer" (Spike Chunsoft) included in "Super Famicom Nintendo Switch Online" will end distribution at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 28, 2025. After distribution ends, even those who have already downloaded "Super Famicom Nintendo Switch Online" will no longer be able to use it."
