Amazon has recently kickstarted interest in full-colour E Ink with its Kindle Colorsoft launching in October. However, it was far from the first to market with a colour device and there are a couple of alternatives that have just arrived in the UK that offer intriguing alternatives. Not least because one of them is over £100 cheaper.

A Reddit user posted a thread with images (see below), saying it’s most obvious when the Kindle “is supposed to be evenly lit and colored like a piece of paper.” Many others with the same issue say they’ve exchanged their Colorsoft for a new one or simply returned it.

This week started with reports from owners of the new Kindle Colorsoft e-reader claiming that a distracting yellow band appeared at the bottom of the screen. Amazon acknowledged that they were aware of the issue.

The Kindle Colorsoft only just launched, and it seems that this new color-screen e-reader has been nothing but beset by problems.

Amazon says it’s working to fix issues with the Kindle Colorsoft, its first color e-reader, following complaints from early buyers that a yellow band of discoloration appears on the bottom of the display.

As its name suggests, the $199.99 Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is an upgraded version of the $159.99 Paperwhite, both of which have been refreshed for 2024. Like the latest Paperwhite, it offers a slightly larger screen and faster performance than the 2021 model.
