QUAD CITIES, IA/Ill. (KWQC) -- After showers and hail-producing thunderstorms early this morning, a warm and windy afternoon with sunshine is expected. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to near 80° with wind gusts 35-45 mph at times. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A warm Saturday in the 70s will turn into a stormy Sunday with all severe weather threats possible, especially Sunday evening and night.
Friday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 a.m. High near 80. South wind 6 to 15 mph, becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Jon Liu a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland, considers this “The period of concern.” “The period of concern” could include thunderstorms, hail, strong winds and bursts of heavy rain. The Storm Prediction Center has also issued about a 5% tornado risk.
Active weather returns to the Tri-State late Sunday and Sunday night. There is a rare Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe storms, according to the Storm Prediction Center. This enhanced risk is unusual for the region and warrants close monitoring.
