Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) was elected to be the next chairman of the Republican Governors Association, a powerful group that handles funding and direction of governor races across the United States for the GOP.

Georgia’s Republican attorney general, Chris Carr, said Thursday that he’s running for governor in 2026, becoming the first major candidate from either party to announce a bid.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will lead the Republican Governors Association for the next year, the group announced Wednesday, just weeks after the party secured governorships in eight out of 11 state races up for grabs in the election earlier this month.
