With Christmas season right around the corner, local tree farms are getting excited for their busy season. One local farm, the Lowes Creek Tree Farm, is preparing for an uproar in sales both this weekend and the next few weekends.

Since 1988, Paoli Tree Farm has worked year-round to deliver fresh Christmas trees to the community. This year, owners Ken Kempfert and Jean Hylland say despite weather challenges, they are prepared for a successful season.

From local cut-your-own Christmas tree farms to tree suppliers nationwide, weather has impacted the yuletide tradition.

With Christmas a little over four weeks away, many families will be heading out this weekend or next for a tree. There are more than 60 tree farms in the state and a few of the state's biggest and oldest are opening this weekend.

This year brought lengthy droughts and high temperatures during the summer which impacted not only this year’s Christmas tree crop, but trees in years to come.

“The living Christmas trees that everybody can take home and plant them. And then they have two other choices. Obviously they can go on the farm and cut a tree which is the primary thing that they do here. We’ve got five main varieties of trees for them to cut. We also have a lot of shipped-in precut fur trees,” Steve Mannhard said.
