A man who scaled the UK Parliament’s historic “Big Ben” clock tower with a Palestinian flag has been arrested, police said.

A man who brought central London to a halt after climbing one of the capital's landmark buildings has now returned to the ground.

A man who climbed part way up the 'Big Ben' clock tower at London's Palace of Westminster early on Saturday and stayed there all day as part of a pro-Palestinian protest, appeared in court on Monday.

The man - who was lifted to the ground in a cherry picker - spent 16 hours on the Elizabeth Tower holding a Palestinian flag at the Palace of Westminster.

A man spent more than 16 hours barefoot and holding a Palestine flag while perched on the clock tower of Big Ben on Saturday.
